Buffelshoek is a farm with unique wildlife and a rich history. Buffelshoek if directly translated would be buffalo’s corner. Surrounded by a mountain range with the same types of mountains that form part of the Mountain Zebra national park that is to the Northwest of the Buffelshoek Farm. The owners of this farm Dirk and Rosie Visser are well-known people in the Cradock district with Dirk Visser involved in the Cradock Seed “Wil jy Saai” business. The Buffelshoek Dirosie Lodge gets its name by combining the two names Dirk and Rosie to “Dirosie” Lodge. Dirosie directly translated will sound much like “The small Rose”.
This new lodge is perfectly situated just outside the town Cradock far enough to give secluded privacy and quietness and near enough to quickly get something in town. With about 19km to Cradock you can get whatever you need.

This spot chosen by her is so high up in the mountain that it took a year and a half to build a road to get there. When you stand at her grave you’ll only then be able to fully understand why out of all the places in the world she has lived and visited that she chose this spot to be laid to rest. Olive Schreiner chose her resting place up in the mountains on the Buffelshoek Farm. When you reach the burial site you are struck with awe by the overwhelming vastness of landscape stretching for kilometers filled with a combination of flat fields to mountains towering in the distance.

Buffelshoek Dirosie Lodge near Cradock
Coming from Middelburg, Hofmeyr or Graaff-Reinet or even Port Elizabeth you’ll end up in J.A. Calata Street in Cradock. You must turn down in Church street to go past the Cradock Seed business. Turn left just after crossing the “Groot Visrivier” river bridge. This R337 road will lead you past the Buffelshoek Dirosie Lodge gate on your right.
